Ethan is 2 months old

Our happy, littlest guy is now 2 months old. It is hard to believe the next monthly post will be almost Christmas and he will be 3 months. Where does the time go? In order to attempt to keep doing these posts I am going to have to try to learn to be brief and just state some facts, I'll give it a try.

Starting with the stats, our pediatrician does them by percentile groups (10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95, 97) and shows them to me on a curve. However, now with Ethan, they also give exact percentages on a printout so I will list those. I did find it interesting that Ethan and Ryan are the same length at this age yet Ryan was considered 95th% and Ethan 90th% on the growth curve.

Stats as of November 15th:
24.5 inches long (93%), 12lb 15oz (79%), head circumference 39.5cms (38%)

Ethan is still a great sleeper, but has had a handful of times we have actually had to rock him or walk him to sleep. Seems to have happened when he was up for too long and is overly tired so he fights sleep. Other than that he is great about laying down awake and putting himself to sleep without a fuss. (Hooray!) General night time schedule is bedtime 7:30/8pm, feeding 5.5-7hrs later, then again 3.5-4hrs after that. If his second feeding is around 7am then he is generally awake then, but if it is 5-5:45 he goes back to bed until 7:30-8:30. Before the time change he was sleeping until 9/9:30, but has moved up about an hr since then. During the day he naps first about 2 hrs after waking up for the day until his next feeding, then usually a cat nap around lunchtime and another 2-3hr nap around 1:30/2pm. From about 4:30pm he is up until bedtime typically. We did give up on swaddling this month because he really does love his hands up by his face and sometimes sucks on his knuckles to soothe himself. I do still wrap him up waist down or put him in a zippered sleep sack and he seems to like it. Ethan, like his brother, is really no good with paci's (he can't seem to hold them in), but if you hold one in for him while he is fussy it typically does help at least for a little while so I suppose it can be useful. We have Nuk, Avent, and Playtex paci's that we received originally for Ryan and he doesn't favor any, so I don't really care to try any others out. He either likes it or he doesn't.

Ethan eats every 3-4hrs during the day, but typically a 2-2.5hr feeding seems to happen right around bedtime. He is a great eater (obviously as he is gaining weight great) and also a good sleeper. Overall, he seems to be such a happy baby and loves his family (and we LOVE him!)

He is wearing size 1 diapers (pampers continue to be our favorite!) and he still wears 3mo clothing (though a few are starting to get snug). Just this week I have been boxing up most of the 0-3mo items that don't fit and he has started to wear a few 3-6mo outfits. I have a feeling the 6mo sleepers will be prevalent in the next week or two so they just went in the wash. He doesn't often wear shoes, but size 1 is still big- he seems to have smaller feet than his brother did.

Ethan is smiling and "talking" to us often when he is awake, he has great head control already and lifts up well at tummy time. He only puts up with tummy time for about 10 min though and then he is through. He tracks people with his head and eyes all around the room now, but especially voices of Mom, Dad, Ryan, and Nana. He tolerates the car seat a little better now and bouncer, but truly prefers to stretch out and kick on a blanket (or his changing table) instead. I have been braver letting him lay on the floor now on a blanket with big brother around as he is learning to be more careful/gentle, but I still keep a close eye on him. Ryan loves and hugs on his brother so much, but still doesn't seem to understand that he could actually smother him or hurt him giving hugs and kisses. The past few weeks Ethan has learned to hold onto a rattle (though he doesn't have much control really). He seems delighted that he can make it make noise and especially loves a guitar rattle that Ryan often plays the music on for him (thanks Fitzgeralds). He does okay in the swing, but mostly just to watch the mobile go around and around and see his cute little face in the mirror which he smiles so big at. About 15 min in the swing and he is typically done, so I think in the next month we will likely be done with it right in time to give back to its owners who are expecting another baby in late January. :)

Ethan got his two month shots at this appointment, which were very sad for him (and Mom), but we know they are so important to keep him healthy as well as other kids around us, so we made it through! Luckily, our office does the 5 injections due at 2 months as one oral medicine, and two shots one in each leg. One shot is a combination of 3, so I'm very thankful for that! Ethan was fussy for about 2 days after his shots every time he would stretch out his legs he seemed to cry, so I believe his poor legs hurt, but no other side effects. I did give him infant Tylenol for the first time and about 3 doses over 48hrs.

Summing it all up, we are just so thankful for our sweet baby boy and feel so blessed to have him added to our lives. As we enter into this week of "Thanksgiving" we have so much to be thankful for- our health, family, friends, and even material possessions. God continues to graciously pour out his blessings on our family and for that we are truly THANKFUL! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Psalm 100: 1-5
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
