Wow! Next month Ryan will be one and a half. It is really hard to believe, yet amazing what he has learned since turning one. Here are a few highlights from this month:

New Vocabulary:
Car
On
Baby
Duh (duck)
Hat/Head (sounds similar and he puts his hand on his head)
Hay (hair)
Boo (blue)
Red
No (luckily only occasionally still and more when he's frustrated "nah nah nah" shaking his head)

Overall, Ryan is still big with noises more than some words. Here are a few examples:
"ow ow ow" is what a cat says, "vroom" for all cars and trucks and sometimes airplanes, "mmmm" for vacuum cleaner, "aooo" for a wolf, "duh nuh nuh nuh" for a shark (introduced by Dad), "ssss" for snake, "moooo" for cow, "oo ah ah ah" with hands motions for monkey, "whoo ooo ooo" for a bird because we have had a dove bird visiting our chimney so he has the dove call down really well, and now he pants when asked what a dog says instead of woof.

New Sign Language:
Thank you, Toothbrush, and All Done/Finished

This month Ryan has started giving mouth kisses instead of just leaning in his head for kisses. They are such sweet kisses and we all LOVE them! Ryan has been to the big swimming pool in our neighborhood and to grandparents pools for a total of about 5 times this summer so far. We are practicing kicking our feet while floating on our tummy and even a few dunks under water to learn to hold our breath. We have done the dunks on two different occasions a couple of times after counting to 3 and he hasn't seemed to figure it out just yet, but doesn't like it. Whenever we are doing something he doesn't like or trying to get him to eat something he doesn't want to eat he will typically say "bye bye", "bye bye" and shake his head no as if to say I'm done with that Mom I don't want to do it anymore. Ryan has also found his belly button and tongue this month and loves to point to both when asked. Ryan also loves to mimic things that we do or say... (cough, sneeze, shhh-with finger, etc.) He has learned a new fake snoring noise too which is rather funny.

Other 'loves' of Ryan's:
Washing his hands in the sink, playing outside, brushing his teeth (although not as much if I want to help him- he wants to do it all by himself). Food favorites: peanuts/peanut butter, strawberries, cantaloupe/watermelon, blueberries (every now and then), raisins, grapes, honey nut cheerios, corn chex, fruit loops, bacon, string cheese, cheddar cheese, edamame, corn, sweet/reg potatoes, chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, corn dog, hot dog, goldfish and really any crackers including graham crackers. (And of course anytime he can have cake/cookie/ice cream/Popsicle/or M&M's he gets VERY excited as he knows it is a special treat!!)

Dislikes:
Foods: cooked carrots and lately peaches (which is opposite from last year), kiwi, pasta, any tomato sauce including ketchup, raspberries/blackberries, green beans, mangoes, & mandarin oranges
Having his fingernails and toe nails trimmed (this can seriously be a major ordeal and is dealt with on a weekly basis)
When we tell him he can't play with the cat- he gets a pouty lip and sometimes starts crying. It's pitiful, yet funny...
